As with every industry there are certain words and phrases that we use that you may not be familiar with. 

Please take the time to read through this list as it will help you to understand what is going on.
 

  CASTING An audition usually held at the offices of a CASTING DIRECTOR, where the client has a chance to see you in person and to see if you have the look or ability they require.

 

 
  SHOOT The filming of the TVC/Catalogue/Stills.

 

 
  OPTION The client has short-listed you. You are still not booked, but MUST keep the dates available and inform us BEFORE making any other commitments, as the client needs to be informed and release the option. If a client decides they will not be needing you they will inform us and we will let you know. Once on an option you should not change your appearance in any way.

 

 
  BOOKING You are confirmed for the shoot and you MUST keep the dates available. Once booked you should not change your appearance in any way. Clients put a lot of time and money into selecting the right people for their shoot and it is often impossible to replace someone at late notice.

 

 
  VENUE The place where the CASTING is taking place, generally at the offices of a CASTING DIRECTOR, but could be elsewhere depending on the nature of the casting performance.

 

 
  WARDROBE Clothing you are required to bring with for a shoot, you need not go out and buy clothing, but should take along what you have that fits the description. Pay special attention to colours that you should or should not take. For most jobs it is best NOT to take anything with logos, writing or numbers.

 

 
  CALL TIME The time you need to be on SET, always try be a few minutes early in case of traffic or other delays. If you are running late you MUST inform the on set contact and us. If lost call for directions.

 

 
  WEATHER CALL This is a call made by you to the production manager 1-2 hours before you would be required on SET, this is used when weather conditions could result in a shoot being cancelled and is to prevent people going all the way to set, only to be turned away.

 

 
  WEATHER BOOKING A booking made, generally for stills shoots, where the weather conditions could result in the shoot being cancelled. See WEATHER CALL.

 

 
  SHOOT DATES The day(s) the job will take place, if you know you are not available for all or most of the days it is advisable not to attend the CASTING, unless you are willing to make yourself available.

 

 
  LOCATION General area the SHOOT will be taking place i.e. Cape Town Station.

 

 
  SET Where filming takes place, i.e. The ticket booth at Cape Town Station.

 

 
  TVC Television commercial, film footage is shot.

 

 
  STILLS Still photographs.

 

 
  CATALOGUE STILLS taken for advertising of clothing, could also be for other products.

 

 
  PHOTO LIBRARY STILLS taken of various people in different situations. These images then form part of a database that clients can purchase for use in advertising, editorials etc. There is a once off fee for the shoot and if the image is used for advertising you will not receive any other USAGE.

 

 
  USAGE A fee paid if you are clearly recognisable in an advert. The payment is calculated on the media, countries used in and the period of use. This usage is a form of compensation, as once you are associated with a specific brand; you would not be able to advertise a competitive product in the same country for the period the usage is running.

 

 
  DAY RATE The fee payable if you are BOOKED for a SHOOT. This fee is per day. The client makes this payment to Xtreme Characters; we would then forward the payment to you. This takes between 30-90 days.

 

 
  ARTIST RELEASE FORM This is the "contract" used for background extras.  You should not sign this on set unless your agent has given you the go-ahead.  Your agent needs to make sure that your interests are protected and that the details are correct.

 

 
  TIMESHEETS These are signed by you when arriving and leaving a shoot, this is the proof that you were there as well as being used to calculate overtime if applicable.  Always ensure that you sign in and out at all shoots and that the time is entered and correct.
